Garfield TV (2022)
On October 6th, 2024 my work, Garfield TV, inspired by Margot Lovejoy’s quote, “Television is the Arena of Confusion” in her book, Digital Currents, was on display at “The Alcove” in the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas.

In Margot Lovejoy’s Digital Currents, there is a passage about the adaptation. In this, she discussed the confusion between many adapted forms of media. For example, when you say “I love Spiderman”, someone may ask “Which one?” as a multitude of Spidermen may appear in one’s head. This is the same conclusion I came to with Garfield, who has had many adaptations of his own. I had thought about how I could make my own adaptation of Garfield. This was the result.

In these videos, you can see that my own adaptation of Garfield is to carve Garfield into the screen of a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Television. In my adaptation, I chose to reference the meme “U R NOT IMMUNE 2 PROPAGANDA” with Garfield’s head on top of the text. If you were to press on it, as demonstrated in the videos, the viewer can see the LCD move from the carvings outward.
